If you don't know me yet, I am Sohee, a former tour guide in Korea and an experienced online Korean teacher.

WASN'T EASY
Originally From Hong Kong, I do not have the advantages like native Koreans do. But! I do think that I understand foreigners’ difficulties in learning Korean more, because I CAN RELATE.
I started off just like you, not knowing any Korean. I only started learning because of my love for K-pop. I don’t want to expose my age here (🫠) but it all began with G-Dragon and TVXQ. All I wanted to do at that time, was to be able to read Korean alphabets and sing to my favourite songs.
I had a hard time learning by myself for the first year, but I got better since I got support from my Korean teacher and classmates when I really majored in Korean at university. From there, I realized the power of having someone professional to guide you and a group of friends as your study partners. Studying Korean wasn’t that hard anymore as I am not alone on my learning journey.
Still, something was missing. I feel like the things that I am learning from textbooks are way too formal and I risk sounding like a robot in real conversations. It stayed the same way for a few years, until I got a chance to do a study program in Korea. I was reading, listening, writing, speaking or even smelling (😂) Korean on a daily basis. If you ask me what did I learnt there, I couldn’t exactly recall. But, I remember the experience that I had in Korea vividly and my Korean was on another level after that miraculously.
That was how I came to the conclusion that...
one has to create a Korean-rich learning environment to see significant progress!
I made efforts to make Korean friends and use Korean as often as I could.
Exactly 10 years after I first come into touch with Korean, I got married with my best friend and best Korean support - who is now my Korean husband.
